THE ORPHAN IN ME | poem
The orphan in me swaggers into rooms
gung-ho guns blazing and skirt swishing
The orphan in me intimidates you
The orphan in me is on a war path
since times immemorial
The orphan in me swirls around
blade in mouth and eyes darting
The orphan in me keeps you at bay
and never surrenders
The orphan in me is wary
The orphan in me is weary
The orphan in me could sleep a hundred years
but finds no place to rest
