FIXING THINGS

The migration conundrum I:

FIXING THINGS

So gli Meloni wants it to cost the people smugglers 30 years in prison, if migrants travelling on their boats die on the way over to the lands of milk and honey. Sounds reasonable at a first look.

But guess what the effect will be? Will people stop trying to migrate to where there is a hope for a better future for their children?

No. The price for crossing will just go up. And snitches get stitches.

And guess which culprits go free? Who is really responsible but pays no price?

Well, power-mongers in both ends. If life was better in the south, every man and his dog would not be looking north. Mothers would be able to mother their young boys all the way through childhood.

And if there were safe and legal routes up north for the poor, they would not risk their lives trying to get here.
